Preview – UK South Coast

Maiden Voyage

OK, first free bank holiday weekend with the bike, and the first long trip since getting her. A perfect opportunity!

In the original planning stages, I was thinking of going camping in Wales, but I’ve already ridden up there twice in the past few years, so why not try a new direction. East seemed a logical choice, my brother lives near Salisbury and my brother-in-law (to be) lives in London, with a camping spot along the way back, I’ve got a perfect round trip.

New Kit!

So the Tiger is familiar territory to me. I had the exact same model two years ago, so I don’t quite consider this a new toy. That being said, I do have some new things to try out, chief among them being a proper camera (Nikon something-or-other). See, up until now, I’ve never taken more than a smartphone with me to take photographs on my trip, and I feel as though I’m missing out on some great opportunities. I am a total novice when it comes to photography though, so who knows how it will turn out!

Other new kit I’ll be trying out:

  • Triumph Tiger Tank Bag
  • Interphone Tour Headset
  • Ultimateaddons Phone case, mount and charger

Yes it’s not a lot, but it’s enough to get me started…

  1. Get a very basic how-to photography guide. There’s a key relationship between aperture, shutter speed and depth of field. ISO rating (used to be called film speed) also plays a part, as does focal length. Try playing with the camera on fully manual settings, and see how the images change when you adjust one or more of those basic three without changing the remainder. Once you’ve mastered that, you can be amazingly creative.
